"Learning takes place when there's an absence of uncertainty"

synapses

All physical actions begin in the brain.

Stimuli begin electrical and chemical reactions that move down the axons of the brain's 100 billion neurons looking for the correct synapse that ultimately leads to the control of the body part being targeted by the brain.

Repetition or practice forces the brain to not only find the quickest neural pathway to the proper synapse but to also "groove" this pathway making future attempts at that certain movement more fluid and quicker.

This concept is nicknamed MUSCLE MEMORY even though there are no brain cells in muscle fibers.

Athletes perform BIOMECHANICAL SKILLS.

AXIOM SPORTS subscribes to the theory that learning proper biomechanical skills involves a process that requires patience, hard work, and perfect practice. The steps of this process are:

  • MODELING - The athlete must experience the proper fundamentals of sport by watching a model athlete and mimicking his actions.
  • TRAINING - The athlete trains his or her body to perform the correct actions relying on sensory feedback without any obstacles to success.
  • EXPLORING - The athlete performs sport fundamentals at a slower pace than required in competition and with less than game-like obstacles to success.
  • APPLYING - The athlete applies his or her growing confidence and comfort to sport fundamentals at either game-like speed or with game-like obstacles to success.
  • MASTERING - The athlete performs sport fundamentals in conditions that are more difficult than he or she will experience in competition.

AXIOM SPORTS PRODUCT LINES are and will be designed to facilitate this process. For example,

  • the skill is modeled in the video that is included with many of the products.
  • the athlete trains the biomechanics with a training tool like The Original Clicker
  • the athlete explores the skill with The Bat Stick
  • the athlete applies experience to the skill with Short Toss and Soft Toss from the Toss-Master
  • the athlete masters the skill with Pitching Machines, Cages and Frames, and Protective Screens.
